答：既分大小，小非所論。今言漸者，從微至著之漸耳。小乘初後俱不知實相，故非今漸也。

Answer: Having distinguished between the Great and the Small, the Small is not what is under discussion here. When we speak of 'gradual' now, it is merely the gradual progression from the subtle to the prominent. The Hīnayāna is ignorant of true reality both at first and later; therefore it is not the 'gradual' meant here.
