疑者云：「《中論》遣蕩，《止觀》建立，云何得同？」然天竺注論凡七十家，不應是青目而非諸師。又《論》云：「因緣所生法，我說即是空，亦為是假名，亦是中道義。」（云云）。

A doubter says: "The Mūlamadhyamakakārikā clears away and discards, whereas Calming and Contemplation establishes. How can they be identical?" Yet in India there were altogether seventy commentators on the treatise; one should not take Piṅgala to be right and all the other masters to be wrong. Furthermore, the Treatise says: "Phenomena arisen through causes and conditions, I declare to be emptiness; they are also provisional designations, and are also the meaning of the middle way" (and so forth).
