1.88

故《大經》開四「四諦」，亦開四「十二因緣」。下智觀故得聲聞菩提，中智觀故得緣覺菩提，上智觀故得菩薩菩提，上上智觀故得佛菩提。

Therefore the Mahāparinirvāṇa-sūtra opens up four kinds of "four truths," and likewise opens up four kinds of "twelve links of dependent arising." Through contemplation with inferior wisdom one attains the bodhi of the śrāvaka; through contemplation with middling wisdom one attains the bodhi of the pratyekabuddha; through contemplation with superior wisdom one attains the bodhi of the bodhisattva; through contemplation with supreme wisdom one attains the bodhi of the Buddha.
