1.95

若推一法，即洞法界，達邊到底，究竟橫竪，事理具足，上求下化備在其中，方稱發菩提心。菩提名「道」，道能通到橫竪彼岸，名「發心波羅蜜」。故於推理委作淺深，事理周遍。下去，法法例爾。

If one investigates a single dharma, one thoroughly penetrates the dharmadhātu, reaching its boundaries and exhausting its depths, fully realizing both horizontal and vertical, complete in both phenomenon and principle; seeking above and transforming below are fully contained within it—only then is it called giving rise to the bodhicitta. Bodhi is named the "path"; the path can lead to the horizontal and vertical other shore, which is called the "perfection of giving rise to the aspiration." Therefore, regarding the investigation of principle, one elaborates shallow and deep, with phenomenon and principle being all-pervasive. From here on, all dharmas follow this pattern.
