問：中道正觀以一其心，行用即足，何須紛紜四種三昧、歷諸善惡、經十二事？水濁珠昏，風多浪鼓，何益於澄靜耶？

Question: Since the correct contemplation of the middle way unifies one's mind, its practice and application are already sufficient; why is there need for the chaotic variety of the four kinds of samādhi, traversing all wholesome and unwholesome states, and passing through the twelve activities? When the water is turbid the jewel is dim, and when the wind is heavy the waves surge; what benefit is there in this for serene stillness?
