What is meant by for a single person? If a person wishes to hear about the four kinds of samādhi and rejoices upon hearing them, one must explain them comprehensively; this is the mundane [siddhānta]. If, upon hearing the four, practicing them in sequence can generate wholesome dharmas, one explains all four completely; this is the individual [siddhānta]. If it is suitable to cure their unwholesome states in the constantly sitting [samādhi], up to curing their unwholesome states in 'following one's own thought,' this is called the remedial [siddhānta]. If this person, fully requiring the four practices, suddenly attains awakening, this is the supreme truth [siddhānta]. If even for one person four expositions are still needed, why should they not be used? As for being for many people: one person delights in constant sitting, the other three not being what is desired; another person wishes for constant walking, the other three not being what is preferred. Pervasively meeting the desires of many people is the mundane siddhānta. The remaining three siddhāntas are likewise.
