Conditioned factors combining produce eye-consciousness; eye-consciousness being a condition produces mental consciousness; when mental consciousness arises, it can immediately discriminate. Depending on mental consciousness, there is eye-consciousness; eye-consciousness can see, and having seen, gives rise to greed; lusting after and defiled by form, it violates the received precepts: these are the four movements of hell. When the mind actually loves form but conceals it and denies it: these are the four movements of the ghost destiny. Giving rise to attachment toward form and calculating self and what belongs to self: the four movements of animals. My form and other's form, I am superior and the other is inferior: the four movements of asuras. When another gives me form, neither taking without giving nor grasping, and regarding this form giving rise to benevolence, deference, chastity, trustworthiness, wisdom, and so forth—the five precepts and ten virtues: the four movements of humans and gods. Contemplating the mind of the four movements as marks of mind arising and ceasing, thought after thought not abiding, thought after thought possessing the three feelings, thought after thought lacking autonomy, thought after thought belonging to conditions: the four movements of the two vehicles.
