Therefore Nāgārjuna said: 'Phenomena do not arise from themselves, nor do they arise from others, nor from both, nor without a cause; therefore they are said to be unarisen.' How could unarisen calming and contemplation establish their names from the four propositions? Establishing names from the four propositions is an arising through conditions and relativity, which can be thought and spoken; it is an arising of defilements and fetters, which can be refuted and destroyed. In an arising that fluctuates through production and cessation, what could be called resting? In an arising of delusion and inversion, what could be called penetrating contemplation?
