5.4 Calming and Contemplation Encompassing All Practices: The preceding wisdom is understanding; if there is understanding without practice, one will ultimately arrive nowhere. Practice is of two kinds: so-called wisdom-practice and conduct-practice. From the wisdom-practice and conduct-practice in the Tripiṭaka up to the wisdom-practice and conduct-practice in the perfect [teaching]: wisdom-practice is primary practice, and conduct-practice is auxiliary practice.
