Answer: The masters of the Dilun say: "All understanding and delusion, reality and falsity, rely on and are sustained by dharmatā. Dharmatā sustains reality and falsity; reality and falsity rely on dharmatā." The Mahāyānasaṃgraha states: "Dharmatā is not defiled by delusions, nor is it purified by reality; therefore dharmatā is not the support. That which is called the support is the ālayavijñāna. Inexhaustible ignorance richly holds all seeds." If following the Dilun masters, the mind possesses all dharmas; if following the Shelun masters, conditions possess all dharmas. These two masters each grasp one extreme. If dharmatā produces all dharmas, dharmatā is neither mind nor condition. If, because it is not mind, mind produces all dharmas, then because it is not condition, conditions should also produce all dharmas; how can one claim solely that dharmatā is the support of reality and falsity? If one says dharmatā is not the support and the ālaya is the support, then if outside of dharmatā there is separately an ālaya support, it would have nothing to do with dharmatā. If dharmatā is not separated from the ālaya, the ālaya's support is just the dharmatā's support; how can one claim solely that the ālaya is the support?
