When the mind ceases, it cannot even produce a single phenomenon; how could it produce the three thousand phenomena? If the three thousand phenomena were produced from a mind that is both ceased and unceased, being both ceased and unceased are mutually contradictory in nature; just as water and fire cannot both stand together, how could it produce the three thousand phenomena? If one says the three thousand phenomena are produced from a mind that is neither ceased nor unceased, being neither ceased nor unceased is neither agent nor object; how could there be agent and object producing the three thousand phenomena? When sought either temporally or spatially, the three thousand phenomena cannot be found; and when sought neither temporally nor spatially, the three thousand phenomena also cannot be found. The path of words is cut off, and the place of mental activity is extinguished; hence it is called the "inconceivable realm."
