Now we investigate whether this object generates mind because it is mind, or generates mind because it is not mind. If the object is mind, it is not called an object, nor is it outside the mind, and thus it is the same as self-generation. Furthermore, if two minds exist side by side, there is neither generator nor generated. If the object is not mind, how could it generate mind? As refuted earlier. If there is a generative nature within the object and it therefore generates mind: is this nature existent or nonexistent? If the nature is existent, nature and object exist side by side, and there is also neither generator nor generated; if nonexistent, what is nonexistent cannot generate. Investigating in this manner, one knows that mind ultimately does not arise from objects.
