If mind arises with the sense faculty and sense object each remaining separate, this would be arising without causes and conditions. Does this separation exist, or does this separation not exist? If this separation exists, it still arises from conditions, so how could it be called separation? If this separation does not exist, how could nonexistence produce anything? If one says that this separation possesses a nature, does this nature exist, or does it not exist? If the nature exists, it still arises from conditions and cannot be called separation. If the nature does not exist, how could nonexistence produce anything? Searching in this way, one knows that mind ultimately does not arise from separation.
