If one does not awaken, one shifts to refuting it through the provisionality of continuity. Why? Although through the fourfold refutation of conditioned arising the arising of mind cannot be found, one presently sees mind arising and ceasing thought-moment after thought-moment in unbroken continuity; how can it be said not to arise? Regarding these thought-moments: does the subsequent thought-moment arise when the prior thought-moment has ceased? Does the subsequent thought-moment arise when the prior thought-moment has not ceased? Does the subsequent thought-moment arise when the prior thought-moment has both ceased and not ceased? Or does the subsequent thought-moment arise when the prior thought-moment has neither ceased nor not ceased?
