Answer: The Buddha does not show people dharmas of dispute; sentient beings do not understand, and cling to them, thereby forming disputes. The Tripiṭaka is shallow and proximate, its four gates hinder one another, and disputatious clinging easily arises. For example, the *Tattvasiddhi* scholars reject the *Abhidharma*, saying: "It is an expedient for regulating the mind, entirely failing to attain the path." The Abhidharma masters say: "Attaining the path occurs only by seeing existence; emptiness belongs to the Mahāyāna." These two treatise masters lost the intent of the four gates, rashly dismissing and obstructing, their attachments of view clashing loudly, so that disputatious calculations easily arose; this is termed merely showing people dharmas of dispute. The shared teaching embodies dharmas as illusory; there is no longer real form, but only names. Names are easily empty, accommodating and harmonious without contradiction, so disputatious calculations rarely arise. The *Mahāprajñāpāramitopadeśa* compares and rebukes the Tripiṭaka, saying: "Other sūtras mostly show people dharmas of dispute; *Prajñā* shows people dharmas of non-dispute, and is also called crossing over skillfully in accordance with reality." The *Mūlamadhyamakakārikā* says: "The true reality of dharmas is attained jointly by the three persons." The *Pañcaviṃśatisāhasrikā-prajñāpāramitā* names it "people of the three vehicles together severing afflictions and seeing the supreme truth through the wordless path"; it is also named "shared prajñā." The *Mahāparinirvāṇa Sūtra* names it "the three animals crossing the river." These are all the purports of the contemplations of the four gates in the shared teaching, and are also not what is currently employed.
