7.184

○是十種法，名「大乘觀」；學是乘者，名「摩訶衍」。云何大乘？如《法華》云：「各賜諸子等一大車。其車高廣，眾寶莊校，周匝欄楯四面懸鈴。又於其上張設幰蓋，亦以珍奇雜寶而嚴飾之。寶繩交絡，垂諸華纓，重敷綩莚，安置丹枕。駕以白牛，肥莊多力，膚色充潔，形體姝好，有大筋力，行步平正，其疾如風。又多僕從而侍衛之。」

These ten kinds of dharmas are called 'the contemplation of the Great Vehicle'; those who study this vehicle are called 'Mahāyāna.' What is the Great Vehicle? As the Lotus Sūtra says: 'To each of his sons he gave an identical great carriage. The carriage was high and broad, adorned with many jewels, surrounded by railings on all sides, with bells suspended on its four faces. Above it was spread a canopy, also adorned with rare and diverse treasures. Jewel ropes were intertwined, hanging with floral tassels; thick mats were spread in layers, and vermilion pillows were placed. It was yoked to a white ox, plump, sturdy, and possessing great strength, with a pure and clean hide and handsome physique, possessing great sinews and strength, walking evenly and smoothly, swift as the wind. Moreover, there were many servants and attendants guarding it.'
