How does it subsume all factors of the path? Within the various factors of the path, each has the awakening factor of equanimity, which is directly subsumed by giving. As for the awakening factor of equanimity in the Tripiṭaka: although it does not enter the principle, it is also the renunciation of body, life, and wealth. The Da zhidu lun says: 'Loving-kindness, compassion, and joy are beneficial to sentient beings; what benefit is there in equanimity?' Equanimity can fully equip the six perfections and broadly benefit sentient beings; this is called 'great benefit.' Furthermore, equanimity is like lamp oil, able to increase the brightness of the other five perfections. Therefore, we know that the perfection of giving subsumes the awakening factor of equanimity. In the shared teaching's awakening factor of equanimity, renouncing body, life, and wealth is like an illusion, like a transformation, the three things all being empty; this awakening factor of equanimity is also subsumed by the perfection of giving. In the distinctive teaching's awakening factor of equanimity, there is non-cognition in renouncing body, life, and wealth; this equanimity is also subsumed by the perfection of giving.
