8.136

作此觀時，雖滯床枕，深識次位。我觀病患，道理宛然，如彼瑠璃在深潭底。我此觀智，但是名字；因疾未除，果疾是分。若似解之位，因疾少輕，道心轉熟；果疾猶重，不免眾災。若入無生法忍，因疾雖盡，猶有果疾。我今不應非位起慢，言我病行均彼上人。

When performing this contemplation, although bedridden on the pillow and mat, one deeply recognizes the stages of rank. When I contemplate the illness, the principles are fully apparent, like vaidūrya at the bottom of a deep pool. This contemplative wisdom of mine is only at the stage of verbal identity; the causal illness has not yet been eliminated, and the fruitional illness is my lot. If one is at the stage of resemblance understanding, the causal illness is slightly lighter, and the mind of the path becomes more mature; yet the fruitional illness is still heavy, and one does not escape various disasters. If one enters the acquiescence to the unarisen dharmas, although the causal illness is exhausted, there is still the fruitional illness. I now must not arouse pride over a rank that is not mine, claiming that my practice during illness equals that of those superior persons.
