8.15

習者：無量劫來煩惱重積，種子成就，薰習相續。如駛水流，順之不覺其疾，概之則知奔猛。行人任煩惱流沿生死海都不覺知；若修道品泝諸有流，煩惱嵬起。唯當勤勉特出，曉夜兼功耳。

As for habit: throughout immeasurable eons, defilements have heavily accumulated, seeds have been brought to completion, and perfuming has continued uninterrupted. It is like swift flowing water: going along with it, one does not perceive its speed, but checking it, one knows its raging force. Practitioners, giving free rein to the flow of defilements along the ocean of birth and death, perceive nothing at all; but if they cultivate the factors of the path and swim upstream against the currents of existence, the defilements surge up like towering peaks. One must simply be diligent, stand out uniquely, and double one's efforts day and night.
