The Avataṃsaka states: '"Sons of the Buddha, the nature of the mind is one; how can it produce all kinds of karmas?" The reply states: "Just as the single great earth can produce all kinds of sprouts."' When the earth receives rain, sprouts of both poison and medicine burst forth all at once. Now, when the earth of dharmatā receives the rain of practicing the path, sprouts of good and evil karma vie to arise in a single thought-moment. Karma is called the 'dharmadhātu,' the metropolis of all phenomena; hence it is designated the 'inconceivable realm.'
