安心業空，則善順而惡息；惡息故名「止」，善順故名「觀」。安心業假，惡息善順。安心業中，惡息善順。順故名「觀」，息故名「止」。是名「觀業善巧安心」。

Settling the mind upon the emptiness of karma, good accords and evil ceases; because evil ceases, it is called 'calming'; because good accords, it is called 'contemplation.' Settling the mind upon the provisionality of karma, evil ceases and good accords. Settling the mind upon the middle of karma, evil ceases and good accords. Accordance is called 'contemplation'; cessation is called 'calming.' This is called 'skillfully settling the mind in contemplating karma.'
