If one enters the stage of resemblance and receives the rewards of the Dharma, do not give rise to haughtiness or attachment. It is like having great merit and being demoted to a small county, either losing one's salary or losing one's life. If one gives rise to attachment to the Dharma, that is committing an offense. Only giving rise to resemblance understanding is like [being relegated to] a small county; losing resemblance understanding is like losing one's salary; falling into the stage of the two vehicles is like losing one's life, because the ancestral altars and family estate of the Mahāyāna are destroyed. If one is without attachment to the Dharma, from resemblance one enters reality, tames māras as attendants, and proceeds directly to the bodhimaṇḍa. Furthermore, regressing in wisdom is like losing merit; regressing in concentration is like losing salary; regressing in both is like losing life. Furthermore, generally using a single intention as contemplation is because practitioners of dull faculties first understand the general intention, and then bend their steps into the distinctive. The Mūlamadhyamakakārikā has distinctive intentions chapter by chapter, yet all converge in non-arising. The shared and the distinctive are raised mutually, and their intended meanings fulfill one another.
