9.15

答：《次第禪門》為成禪波羅蜜，禪善根利，故禪門先發，後驗善惡；此中為成般若，禪善根鈍，先阻煩惱，遇業遭魔，後始發禪。對治中，為破遮障，修成助道；今此任運自發，仍為觀境。禪門雖同，各有其意（云云）。

Answer: In the Cidi chanmen, it is for completing the dhyāna-pāramitā; the good roots of dhyāna are sharp, so the gateways of dhyāna arise first, and afterwards the good and bad are examined. Here, it is for completing prajñā; the good roots of dhyāna are dull, so one first obstructs afflictions, encounters karma, and confronts māras, and only afterwards does dhyāna arise. In the counteractive antidotes, it is to break obstructions and cultivate the auxiliary paths; here, they arise spontaneously of their own accord, yet still serve as objects of contemplation. Although the gateways of dhyāna are the same, each has its own purpose (and so forth).
