初、明開合者，禪門無量且約十門：一、根本四禪，二、十六特勝，三、通明，四、九想，五、八背捨，六、大不淨，七、慈心，八、因緣，九、念佛，十、神通。

First, regarding explaining expansion and contraction: the gates of dhyāna are immeasurable, but provisionally we summarize them as ten gates: 1. the fundamental four dhyānas; 2. the sixteen superior excellences; 3. total brightness; 4. the nine contemplations of decay; 5. the eight liberations; 6. the great impurity; 7. loving-kindness; 8. causes and conditions; 9. mindfulness of the Buddha; 10. supernatural powers.
