In a brief moment, one sees this bloated corpse, blown by the wind and scorched by the sun, its skin and flesh breaking apart, its body splitting open, its form and color transformed and completely unrecognizable—this is called the "mark of rupturing." Furthermore, one sees where it has split open, blood gushing forth from within, scattering, flowing, and smearing everywhere, mottled in places, soaking and overflowing the ground, its stench billowing up—this is the mark of bloody smear. Furthermore, one sees pus and rot liquefying and collapsing, flowing abundantly like wax meeting fire—this is called the mark of purulent decomposition. Furthermore, one sees the remnant skin and remaining flesh dried and parched by wind and sun, foul and decaying, dark and bruised, half blue and half purplish, peeling and blistering—this is the mark of blue-bruising. Furthermore, one sees this corpse being devoured by foxes, wolves, kites, and vultures, swarming and contending, clawing, tearing, and dragging—this is the mark of devouring. Furthermore, one sees the head and hands in different places, the five viscera scattered apart, unable to be gathered—this is the mark of scattering. Furthermore, one sees two kinds of bones: one smeared with pus and grease, the other purely white and clean; one sees either a single set of bones, or them filling an entire village.
