The Vaipulya is supreme and cannot be taken lightly; if one wishes to cultivate it, divine beings serve as witnesses. First, seek the Dream King; if one manages to see one, repentance is permitted. In a quiet, solitary place, adorn the bodhimaṇḍa, smear the ground with fragrant mud, and inside and outside the room make a round altar painted in colors, hang five-colored banners, burn shore-fragrance incense, light lamps, spread a high seat, and invite twenty-four images of the Honoured Ones, or more without hindrance. Set out delicacies, exhausting one's mind and strength. One must have newly cleaned clothes, shoes, and sandals, or wash the old if there are no new; put them on and take them off when entering and leaving, not letting them get mixed. Observe a strict fast for seven days, bathing three times a day. On the first day, make offerings to the saṅgha, whatever amount one wishes. Separately invite a teacher who is well-versed in the internal and external vinaya to receive the twenty-four precepts and the dhāraṇī spell. To confess sins before the teacher, one must use the eighth or the fifteenth day of the month. One should take seven days as one period, definitely not to be reduced; if one can advance further, it is according to one's capacity. Ten people or fewer, not exceeding this. Lay people are also permitted, but must prepare single-seam three robes, fully equipped according to the Buddha's regulations.
