In this way, through the four propositions one does not find the arising of 'about to be greed'; reversing the four propositions, one does not find the ceasing of 'not yet greed'. That 'about to be greed' arises, does not arise, both arises and does not arise, and neither arises nor does not arise, is also as explained above. Contemplating the hindrance of greed as ultimately empty and calm, while both [truths] are clearly illuminated, is all as explained above. This is called the 'hook and bait'. If the hindrance constantly arises, this contemplation constantly illuminates; one neither sees arising nor sees illumination; yet it arises, and it illuminates. (First)
