3.14

If cessation-calming receives its name from that which is destroyed, illuminating the object is primary while removing delusion is secondary; since it receives its name from that which is abandoned, the name is established from the secondary, falling into other-nature (parabhāva). If resting-calming receives its name from that which is able to destroy, illuminating the object is primary while removing delusion is secondary; since it speaks of being able to illuminate, the name arises from wisdom, falling into self-nature (svabhāva). If it is not calming because delusive conceptualizations cease, nor calming because of abiding in the principle, but calming due to the causal condition of wisdom and severance, the name arises from their combination, falling into shared nature. If one speaks of calming as neither that which is destroyed nor that which is able to destroy, this falls into causeless nature.
