5.7

The five aggregates combine with the four great elements; if one does not observe them with illumination, one will not realize their chaotic rush. It is like being in a closed boat drifting with the current—how could one know how furiously it surges? Only when one turns against the current does one begin to realize the surging flow. Once one has contemplated the fruit of the aggregates, this stirs up the causes of afflictions; therefore, following the five aggregates, the four modes [of afflictions] are discussed.
