The factors of the path and the grounds of fearlessness mutually subsume one another. Practising the factors of the path and the six perfections is precisely practising the grounds of fearlessness and abiding in the Buddha's deportment. The Mahāprajñāpāramitopadeśa states: "Inner perfection is called 'power'; outer application without timidity is called 'fearlessness'." The Daśabhūmika-vibhāṣā states: "A single Dharma is called fearlessness; why speak of four? Because there is no doubt with regard to four matters, it is called 'four'." A Buddha should be fearless regarding all dharmas, so why only four? By citing the essentials and opening the main points, the rest are also known to be without fear.
