The Great Vehicle of calming and contemplation is also like this. Contemplating the mind in thought-moment after thought-moment as nothing other than the true reality of dharmatā is called 'an identical great carriage.' In each and every mind, it is namely empty, namely provisional, and namely middle: this is called 'to each he gave a great carriage.' Penetrating the source of the three truths is called 'high.' Encompassing the ten dharmadhātus is called 'broad.' The immeasurable aids to the Way are called 'adorned with many jewels.' The four right efforts ward off evil and maintain good, and vows sustain practice so that the pins and clamps are firm: this is called 'surrounded by railings on all sides.' The eloquence of dharma, meaning, phrasing, and readiness, expressing and awakening, is called 'bells suspended on its four faces.' Compassion universally covering without omission or limit is called 'above it was spread a canopy.' Embraced by the aids to the Way, the ten powers, fearlessnesses, and eighteen unshared dharmas not shared with others are called 'adorned with rare treasures.' The four great vows, keeping the resolute mind from regressing, are called 'jewel ropes intertwined.' Gathering beings through the four means of embrace so that none are displeased is called 'hanging with floral tassels.' The various dhyānas and samādhis giving rise to the six supernormal powers are called 'thick mats spread in layers.' The four gates returning to the source and putting to rest all practices is called 'vermilion pillows placed.' The wisdom of the four smṛtyupasthānas destroying the darkness of the eight inversions is called 'yoked to a white ox.' The four right exertions increasing the two types of good are called 'plump, sturdy, and possessing great strength.' Severing the two types of evil so that both evils are completely purified is why it says 'with a pure and clean hide.' The four bases of supernormal power and unimpeded mastery in the four eloquence types are called 'handsome physique.' The five faculties firmly rooted and immovable are called 'sinews.' The five powers increasing and warding off all unwholesome dharmas are called 'strength.' The seven factors of enlightenment selecting and discerning are called 'walking.' The eightfold path secure and peaceful is called 'evenly and smoothly.' Antidotes and assisting paths broadly gathering all dharmas are called 'many servants and attendants guarding it.' Breaking through Dharma-attachment and avidyā to enter the ocean of sarvajñā, swiftly realizing the true, is called 'swift as the wind.' Carrying the children along to sport and rejoice: this contemplation of the Great Vehicle possesses all the Dharma gates to perfection, harmonizing with that sūtra; therefore it is called 'the contemplation of the Great Vehicle.'
