Practitioners of contemplation are also like this. If contemplative practice is clear, one can apply it everywhere across conditions and objects. If not, how can the army of Māra be destroyed? How can the severe illness of afflictions be removed? How can the profound meaning of dharmatā be revealed? If these three matters are not accomplished, struggling in futile toil, one is merely an ordinary person in birth and death, not possessing the expedient means for studying the path.
