The dharmas of the dharmatā fundamentally have no self, yet ordinary beings arbitrarily consider there to be a self. Fundamentally they are not non-self, yet followers of the two vehicles arbitrarily consider them to be non-self. Now, contemplating that the dharmatā is identical to emptiness, all is identical to emptiness; in emptiness there is no self, which is called “destroying the ordinary beings' inversion, and the withered smṛtyupasthāna is accomplished.” The dharmatā is identical to the provisional, and all are provisional designations, unobstructed and sovereign, fully possessing the meaning of self; this is called “destroying the two vehicles' inversion, and the flourishing smṛtyupasthāna is accomplished.” Contemplating that the fundamental limit of dharmas is neither empty nor provisional. Because it is not empty, it is not non-self; because it is not provisional, it is not self. The non-arising of extreme inversions is called “entering nirvāṇa”; the manifestation of the principle in between is called the “secret treasury.”
