From "Privately I say" downward is Zhang'an's private interpretation. "Private", as the Cangjie says, means "not public". Because it was neither spoken by the Great Master in the presence of the assembly nor verified and related directly to the Great Master, it is called "private". As for the two truths, although realization belongs to the sage, the original teaching was for ordinary people; yet although taught to ordinary people, they have not truly realized it. Speaking of realization, it is entirely stripped away from ordinary people, who have no share in it, hence called "complete stripping away". Speaking of teaching, it is equally shared with ordinary people, hence called "complete giving". If for the ordinary person the ultimate is stripped away while the conventional is given to them, this is called "half-giving and half-stripping away".
