6.38

次約橫門者，初明來意，先法、次譬。從淺至深，故名「徑直」。門門意等，故名為「齊」。俱列意等，故名為「並」。「若橫」等者，次說門意。橫竪雖異，無不見實。亦是類通，通一切行皆至於極。

Next, regarding the horizontal gate: It first explains the purpose of its coming: first the principle, then the metaphor. Moving from the shallow to the deep, it is called 'direct.' The intents of the various gates being equal, they are called 'aligned.' Listing them all together with equal intent, they are called 'parallel.' From 'If horizontally' and so forth: next it explains the intent of the gates. Although the horizontal and the vertical differ, neither fails to see the real. This also categorizes and penetrates them, penetrating all practices so that they all reach the ultimate.
