1.88

二者、精進。堅持禁戒，棄於五蓋，初夜後夜專精不廢；譬如鑽火未熱，終不休息，是名精進善道法。

The second is diligence (vīrya). Firmly upholding the restrictive precepts, abandoning the five hindrances, and in the first and last parts of the night being devoted and focused without remiss; just like drilling for fire where, before it is hot, one never rests. This is called the method of diligence on the wholesome path.
