答曰：此發宿緣不正，因修得證，緣盡則滅謝不進，終不成就次第法門。至下內方便中明善根發相，當廣分別。餘二門類然可知。

Answer: This is the arising of past conditions, not direct realization gained through [systematic] cultivation. When those conditions are exhausted, it fades away without progressing, and ultimately the sequential Dharma gates are not accomplished. This will be extensively differentiated below in the internal expedient means under the signs of the arising of wholesome roots. The other two gates can be understood in like manner.
