次明修禪。修禪者，即是超越三昧，於諸禪中超越入出，為得無礙自在解脫故。是以《大品經》云：「菩薩摩訶薩住般若波羅蜜，取禪波羅蜜。除諸佛三昧，入餘一切三昧，若聲聞三昧，若辟支佛三昧，若菩薩三昧，皆行皆入。」餘一切三昧者，根本定是。若聲聞三昧者，三十七品、空、無相等三三昧，四諦十六行是。若辟支佛三昧者，十二因緣三昧是。菩薩三昧者，自性禪等，皆名三昧是。菩薩住諸三昧，逆順出入八背捨，依八背捨逆順出入九次第定，依九次第定逆順出入師子奮迅三昧，依師子奮迅三昧逆順出入超越三昧。是菩薩依諸三昧，得諸法相等，齊此始是二乘行，行共禪滿。何以故？大阿羅漢亦得超越三昧故。

Next, explaining cultivating dhyāna: cultivating dhyāna is the transcending samādhi, skipping over stages when entering and emerging among the various dhyānas in order to attain unobstructed, sovereign liberation. Therefore, the Pañcaviṃśatisāhasrikā Prajñāpāramitā Sūtra says: "The bodhisattva mahāsattva, abiding in the perfection of wisdom, takes hold of the perfection of dhyāna. Excluding the samādhis of the buddhas, he enters all other samādhis—whether śrāvaka samādhis, pratyekabuddha samādhis, or bodhisattva samādhis—practicing and entering them all." 'All other samādhis' refers to the root concentrations. 'Śrāvaka samādhis' refers to the thirty-seven aids to awakening, the three samādhis of emptiness and signlessness, and the sixteen aspects of the four noble truths. 'Pratyekabuddha samādhis' refers to the samādhi of the twelve links of dependent origination. 'Bodhisattva samādhis' refers to self-nature dhyāna and so on, all called samādhis. The bodhisattva abides in these samādhis, entering and emerging from the eight liberations in forward and reverse order; relying on the eight liberations, enters and emerges from the nine sequential absorptions in forward and reverse order; relying on the nine sequential absorptions, enters and emerges from the lion's sprint samādhi in forward and reverse order; and relying on the lion's sprint samādhi, enters and emerges from the transcending samādhi in forward and reverse order. Relying on these samādhis, this bodhisattva realizes the true nature of all phenomena. At this point, the practice of dhyāna shared with the two vehicles is fully accomplished. Why is this? Because great arhats also attain the transcending samādhi.
