Furthermore, if one claims that defiled dharmas have defiled dharmas from themselves; or that because of defiled mind, defiled dharmas exist; or that because of both dharma and mind, defiled dharmas exist; or that not because of dharma and not because of mind, defiled dharmas exist—such assumptions all fall into wrong views. Why is this? If one claims that because of defiled dharmas there are defiled dharmas, this would be an intrinsic nature of defiled dharmas. If there were an intrinsic nature of defiled dharmas, then there would be endless defiled dharmas, because an intrinsic nature would have another intrinsic nature. Now in reality, this is not so. If one claims that defiled dharmas cannot exist from themselves and exist because of defiled mind, this would be an extrinsic nature of defiled dharmas. Why is this? If a defiled dharma relies on defiled mind for its intrinsic nature, then now defiled mind relies on defiled dharma—how could that not be an extrinsic nature? If a defiled dharma exists because of an extrinsic nature, then if the extrinsic nature is a defiled dharma, the defiled dharma remains a defiled dharma, and there is no distinction between mind and dharma; if the extrinsic nature is not a defiled dharma, how could that which is not a defiled dharma have a defiled dharma? Therefore we know that defiled dharmas do not exist because of defiled mind. If one claims that defiled dharmas exist because of defiled dharmas and defiled mind, this would be shared existence. If it is shared existence, then defiled dharmas exist from both intrinsic and extrinsic nature. If so, then two defiled dharmas should exist simultaneously. Now in reality, this is not so; therefore we know that defiled dharmas do not exist from self, from other, or from both combined.
