一、如息法不定，但屬世間禪門。何以得知？如《毘尼》中，佛為聲聞弟子說觀息等十六行法，弟子隨教而修，皆得聖道，故知亦是出世間禪門，即大乘門者，如《大品》說：「阿那波那，即是菩薩摩訶衍。」故《請觀音經》約數息辨六字章句，明三乘得道，此豈可但是世間禪門？

First, the dharma of breath is not fixed solely as a gate of mundane dhyāna. How is this known? As in the Vinaya, the Buddha taught his śrāvaka disciples the practice of the sixteen aspects, such as observing the breath, and the disciples cultivated them according to his teaching and all attained the noble path; hence we know that it is also a supramundane dhyāna gate. As for it being a Mahāyāna gate: the Pañcaviṃśatisāhasrikā Prajñāpāramitā Sūtra states, "Ānāpāna is the Mahāyāna of the bodhisattva." Furthermore, the Sūtra on Invoking Avalokiteśvara explains the six-character verse based on counting the breath to elucidate the three vehicles attaining the path. How could this merely be a gate of mundane dhyāna?
