10.68

次釋六神通。六通者：一、天眼通；二、天耳通；三、他心通；四、宿命通；五、如意通；六、漏盡通。皆言神通者，神名天心，通是智慧性，以天然之智慧，徹照一切色心等法無閡，故名神通。今約此諸禪後，釋六通，即為三意：一、明得通因緣不同；二、正明修通方法；三、明變化功用。

Next, explaining the six supernormal knowledges. The six supernormal knowledges are: (1) the supernormal knowledge of the divine eye, (2) the supernormal knowledge of the divine ear, (3) the supernormal knowledge of others' minds, (4) the supernormal knowledge of past lives, (5) the supernormal knowledge of psychokinesis, and (6) the supernormal knowledge of the exhaustion of outflows. They are all called supernormal knowledges (shentong) because *shen* (divine/supernormal) means the natural/heavenly mind, and *tong* (penetration) is the nature of wisdom; penetratingly illuminating all phenomena such as matter and mind without obstruction by means of innate wisdom is called supernormal knowledge. Now, following these various dhyānas, the explanation of the six supernormal knowledges has three points: first, explaining the differences in the causes and conditions for attaining the supernormal knowledges; second, directly explaining the method of cultivating the supernormal knowledges; third, explaining their functional application in transformations.
