二者、簡定覆發者，為眾生現在修禪不定故，應作四句分別：一、自有雖犯戒而發定，持而不發；二、自有破戒而不發定，持戒而發；三、自有持戒、犯戒二俱發；四、自有持、犯俱不發。

Second, examining and determining concealing and generating: because the current cultivation of dhyāna by sentient beings is not uniform, one should make a fourfold distinction: 1. there are cases where although one violates the precepts, absorption is generated, while keeping them does not generate it; 2. there are cases where breaking the precepts does not generate absorption, while keeping the precepts generates it; 3. there are cases where both keeping and violating the precepts generate it; 4. there are cases where neither keeping nor violating generates it.
