今但約止門中四修分別，則有十六種發禪不定。若更就觀門中四修分別，亦有十六種發禪不定。止觀合辨，則有三十二種發禪不定。此三十二但就法行人分別，若約信行人，聞說止觀教門發禪悟道不定，亦有三十二種，其事云云，今不具說。

Now, distinguishing solely in terms of the four types of cultivation within the gate of cessation, there are sixteen kinds of indeterminacy in the manifestation of dhyāna. If one further distinguishes in terms of the four types of cultivation within the gate of contemplation, there are likewise sixteen kinds of indeterminacy in the manifestation of dhyāna. Combining cessation and contemplation, there are thirty-two kinds of indeterminacy in the manifestation of dhyāna. These thirty-two are distinguished solely with respect to practitioners of the Dharma (dharmānusārin); if considering practitioners of faith (śraddhānusārin) who hear the teaching gates of cessation and contemplation explained and manifest dhyāna and awaken to the Way indeterminately, there are likewise thirty-two kinds. The details are extensive and will not be fully stated now.
