第三、明發法多少者，上雖辨因止通發一切諸禪三昧，然行人根性不同，發法不無多少之別。有人但發一種禪門，有發二門、三門、四門、五門，或有一人並發十五門及一切諸禪三昧，不可定判。所以而然，此皆由行者過去習因偏圓不等，厚薄之殊，亦以今世精進、懈怠，有慧方便、無慧方便之別，故發法優劣不同，殊途萬品之異，是則略明發法多少之相也。

Third, explaining the quantity of the manifested dharmas: although it was explained above that cessation generally manifests all the various dhyānas and samādhis, yet because the faculties and natures of practitioners differ, there are inevitably differences in the quantity of dharmas manifested. Some manifest only a single dhyāna gate, while others manifest two gates, three gates, four gates, or five gates; or there may be one person who manifests all fifteen gates and all dhyānas and samādhis together—it cannot be definitively determined. The reason for this is that it is entirely due to practitioners' past habituated causes being partial or complete and differing in thickness and thinness, as well as the distinctions in the present life between diligence and indolence, and between possessing or lacking the expedient means of wisdom. Therefore, the superiority and inferiority of the manifested dharmas are not the same, resulting in the variation of ten thousand distinct paths. This briefly explains the characteristics of the quantity of the manifested dharmas.
