3. Explaining the arising of the wholesome roots of recollecting the Dharma Buddha: within a calm, concentrated mind in the desire realm or the anāgamya stage, one suddenly recollected: 'The true nature of the Dharma body of the Buddhas of the ten directions is like empty space.' Thereupon one awakens to the fact that all dharmas are fundamentally unborn and now unceasing, neither existent nor nonexistent, neither coming nor going, neither increasing nor decreasing, neither object nor wisdom, neither cause nor effect, neither eternal nor annihilated, neither bound nor liberated, neither saṃsāra nor nirvāṇa, tranquil and pure. Whether Buddhas exist or do not exist, their signs and nature are constantly so; that sentient beings and all Buddhas share the same true reality is precisely the Dharma body Buddha. Thus the Pañcaviṃśati-sāhasrikā-prajñāpāramitā-sūtra states: 'All dharmas are as true reality.' The fact that all dharmas are such reality is precisely the Buddha; apart from this, there is no other Buddha. When reflecting in this way, samādhi manifests, true wisdom opens up, and one instantly penetrates immeasurable Dharma gates, tranquil and unmoving, all inconceivable realms presenting signs of fulfillment in concentration. As expounded at length in the chapter on the purification of the six sense faculties in the Lotus Sūtra, these are the signs of the arising of the wholesome roots of recollecting the Dharma Buddha.
