Answer: When bliss permeates the body, all the pores of the body rejoice. At that time, although the five sensory faculties do not produce consciousness in response to external dusts, the dharma of bliss emerges from within and fills the faculties; all within the five faculties are delighted and blissful, but without an external sensory object confronting them, the five consciousnesses are not produced. The sensory faculties rely upon the body; since the bodily bliss is full, the sensory faculties attain thorough joy. Bliss is associated with mental consciousness; because consciousness is filled within, it is experienced throughout the entire body. This is why the Buddha taught that the bliss of the third dhyāna is experienced throughout the whole body.
