First, the equanimity factor: when the bliss absorption of the third dhyāna is attained and arises, one renounces joy without regret; it can also be said that one renounces and abandons the three faults. Second, the mindfulness factor: having attained the bliss of the third dhyāna, one is mindful to use the three dharmas to guard and protect it, causing the bliss to increase. Third, the wisdom factor: one is skillful with the three dharmas in abandoning the three faults. Fourth, the bliss factor: joyful bliss is experienced throughout the entire body. Fifth, the one-pointedness of mind factor: the mind experiencing bliss comes to rest, and the characteristics of one-pointed tranquil absorption are entirely as explained in the manifestation of the second dhyāna.
