二、明體用，還以默然心為定體，從默然觸更動發起五支，此則為用。何以故？從體起用，用則在後，因則據前。

Second, explaining essence and function: again, the silent mind is taken as the essence of absorption; from silent sensation, the five factors are further stirred and aroused, which constitutes function. Why? Function arises from essence; function is subsequent, while cause is prior.
