就立品明淺深中，自為二意：一、約同類；二、約異類。一、同類者，如一動觸發時，漸漸覺深，乃至九品；二、約異類者，如動觸謝後，即發餘觸，雖觸相不同，而覺定漸深勝於上。復次，若約五支中明淺深者，亦有二：一、同類者，如觸發五支時，即有淺深之相；二、異類者，若五支次第增長，一一支中亦各自有淺深之相。

Regarding shallowness and depth in terms of establishing grades, there are two points: first, in terms of the same category; second, in terms of different categories. First, regarding the same category: for instance, when a single sensation of movement arises, one gradually perceives it deepening, up to nine grades. Second, regarding different categories: for instance, after a sensation of movement ceases, other sensations immediately arise; although the characteristics of the sensations differ, one perceives the absorption gradually deepening and surpassing what was before. Furthermore, if one explains shallowness and depth within the five factors, there are also two points: first, the same category: as when sensations give rise to the five factors, there are characteristics of shallowness and depth; second, different categories: if the five factors increase sequentially, within each factor there are also characteristics of shallowness and depth.
