1. The marks of the realization and occurrence of the absorption: when the practitioner single-mindedly conditions upon consciousness, they immediately become quiet and still, naturally dwelling of themselves in the cause of conditioning upon consciousness. Thereafter, they suddenly accord with consciousness, and the mind is settled and unmoving; within absorption, they see no other matters, but only see the present mental consciousness not abiding from thought to thought. The mind in absorption is distinct and clear, and the conscious thought is vast, measureless and boundless. Within absorption, one also recollects the ceased past consciousnesses as measureless and boundless, and the future consciousnesses that are to arise as also measureless and boundless; they all appear within absorption, according with the dharma of consciousness. The dharma of consciousness holds the mind, leaving no scattered intention. This absorption is secure, pure, and tranquil; the mental consciousness is bright and sharp beyond description.
